Pride in Sports Panel
February 23, 2021
Our Volunteering Officers, Betsy and Bea, organized a panel welcoming all TeamUCL students and staff to discuss LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports.
Grace, a transgender rugby player and activist from the US, and Jack, the Club Captain of the King's Cross Steelers, the first gay-inclusive rugby club shared their experiences, answered questions and gave advice to attendees on how to create a welcoming and safe environment for all genders and sexual orientations in sports.
Pride Touch Tournament
November 2020
On our very last training before lockdown, UCL Women’s Rugby organised an intra-club Pride touch rugby tournament. Our six teams, each a colour of the rainbow, competed in Ready-For-Rugby games and put up an incredible - and COVID safe - show of all the skills they’ve learned so far.
Returning, experienced and brand-new players alike displayed brilliant competitive spirit and unbelievable progress since we first started training 5 weeks ago. In a nerve-wracking final, “On-Wednesdays-We-Wear-Pink” reigned victorious over “Mellow-Yellows”. The game ended 6-5, surrounded by support and encouragement from the four other teams. A few rainbow laces and chocolate boxes were awarded to the winners and the Most Valuable Players, and everyone was introduced to ‘Berlington Bertie’ to finish the day.
After a more than promising start to the season, and this (very intense) tournament, all our members deserve a nice break over reading week, before the start of our online weekly training sessions and socials
